What is BAC water?

Bacteriostatic Water is sterile, pyrogen-free water for injections to which 0.9% (9 mg/ml) benzyl alcohol has been added. This additive serves as a bacteriostatic preservative. In contrast to pure sterile water, the chemical composition of BAC water allows multiple withdrawals from the vial, as the benzyl alcohol prevents the growth of most bacteria.

In laboratory practice, BAC water is considered the “gold standard” for dissolving (reconstituting) lyophilized (freeze-dried) peptides and research chemicals. It ensures that the sensitive peptide structures remain stable and sterile during the dissolution process to enable precise research results.

Storage

Before opening
BAC Water should be stored in a cool, dry place at controlled room temperature (20°C to 25°C), protected from direct sunlight.

After use
Once BAC Water has been used to reconstitute a peptide, the resulting solution should be stored in a refrigerator at 2°C to 8°C. The bacteriostatic effect generally lasts for about 28 days after the vial is first punctured. After that, any remaining solution should be disposed of properly.
